The Department of Geology of Gurucharan University came into existence in 1965 in the erstwhile Gurucharan College and since then the department has dedicated to advance the understanding of earth-system science in broader perspective with special focus to geology. The Department offers strong academic foundation through its flagship undergraduate programme and with upgradation to university the Department is now equipped to offer P.G. programme combined with research program, coupled with theoretical, practical and field based learning.
With great effort and visionary leadership of our founding fathers, the department was upgraded to a major centre of learning in geological sciences in NE India. During the last several decades the teaching-learning got a fillip with increase in student enrolment. The vast pool of our student have been successfully placed in several public sector undertakings, MNCs, private companies, research and academics in India and abroad.
The present faculty members of the Department are highly experienced and actively contribute to the national and international research initiative. The Department strives to produce skilled profession equipped to meet the emerging challenges in Geoscience sectors while fostering scientific curiosity and environmental awareness.
